“The paintings are bardic, intensely charged with eloquence and passion. In each work, the brushwork is the heartbeat. This is plain unadulterated hand painting, carried to amazing lengths. The natural reality Schueler transmits is everchanging; the brushwork echoes this evanescence like a chorus.
Mood with Magda, for instance, swells at the top with an immanent light which seems to be dimmer and dimmer. As it does, a transparent red haze floats before a horizontal gray lower down. Closer up, this red disappears; there is no evidence of it on the canvas.”
